world financial center - battery park city

i feel like the entire design aesthetic of the world financial center and battery park city as a whole was to "humanize" the 60s-70s era superscapers of lower manhattan (wtc, 1 liberty, chase manhattan, etc) - relating them more to the street and spired towers of the past. without the contrast of the mighty twins, they have taken on a whole new persona. how will they relate to the liebskind-silverstein-childs version of lower manhattan soon to come?

the united nations

the incredible shapes that made themselves apparent during a tour i took of the UN this summer (first time for me since '83) left me breathless. high modernism definitely. you can almost feel the sense of possibility felt by the politicians and architects of the time. architecture - e.g. modernism as a unifying democratic force.
